Bariatric Weight
Loss Surgery ... are you a candidate?
|
There are several criteria that were set by the National Institute of Health
to determine who is appropriate for WLS. The basic criteria
include:
• Body Mass Index (BMI)
of 40 or above
• BMI of 35 or above when accompanied by severe
health problems such as heart disease,
diabetes, acid reflux, osteoarthritis,
sleep apnea, polycystic ovary syndrome •
Efforts to lose weight through dieting and exercise
have failed repeatedly • Awareness of
the cost/benefit of surgery |
Your decision is much more complicated than a checklist.
While the uninformed may suggest that WLS is the easy
way out, there are in fact, many difficult aspects of
the process right from the start. |
 |
We’re the experts who can help you assess if this
enormous life change is for you, support you through the stress
of the surgery, and guide you with the emotional upheaval
that such a drastic change in eating, your physical size and
body image will bring.
